An Erasmus+ project focused on birds and their migrations, including scientific bird ringing and ecosystem management, particularly in the context of climate change.
The project also explores how to create green businesses and sustainable economic opportunities related to biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship.
From April 20th to 26th, the first Erasmus+ session dedicated to bird migration, scientific bird ringing, and climate change took place in Italy. The excellent host was the OasiCostiera Ornithological Station, located in Cesenatico (Emilia-Romagna region) and led by the tireless Sandro Brina, an ornithologist who has broken all ringing records in his country, with more than 150,000 birds ringed throughout his career. + DETAILS and PHOTOS
This time, Barcelona will host young ornithological researchers from Italy and Turkey. Together they will explore various natural areas of Catalonia, on a route that will begin in Barcelona and continue to Lleida and the Ebro Delta. During the trip, they will learn about ecological restoration projects, such as the Ivars and Vila-sana lagoon.
The program also includes learning methodologies for assessing climate change using bioindicators such as flora, birds, and butterflies, as well as working with the FENOCAT network of phenological indicators. This will take place at the Can Miravitges Nature School in the Serra de Marina mountain range. Bird ringing sessions and visits to projects and places of interest, such as the «Parc del Mussol» biodiversity micro-reserve in Amposta, are also planned.
All of this will be complemented by an important cultural and gastronomic exchange on the shores of the Mediterranean, within the framework of this Erasmus+ project focused on bird migration, the scientific ringing of birds and the study of climate change, whose third stop will be in Türkiye. + DETAILS and PHOTOS
